The Perth Mint - 125 years of Australian minting tradition
The Perth Mint was opened on June 20, 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint, dedicated to refining gold mined in Western Australia. In 1970 ownership transferred to the Government of Western Australia. The modern complex includes a refinery with 700-tonne annual gold capacity and a minting studio. All Perth Mint products are LBMA Good Delivery accredited. The Australian Kangaroo was launched in 1986 as the "Australian Gold Nugget" - the kangaroo motif arrived in 1989.

Market analysis - why the Kangaroo is unique
The Australian Kangaroo is one of the "Big Four" global gold bullion coins alongside Krugerrand, American Gold Eagle and Maple Leaf. Unique feature: the annually changing reverse design since 1989 - 36 distinct vintage compositions, something the other Big Four with fixed designs cannot offer.
From a liquidity perspective Kangaroo is particularly valued in Asian markets - Hong Kong, Singapore, China, India. The annual design change fits Asian collecting culture. Seasonal premium 1-3% over spot in Q1 for newest vintage.
The Australian Dollar (AUD) shows historical correlation with the gold price (commodity-linked currency). Owning a coin denominated in AUD with locally mined precious metal creates an interesting "double-hedge" against US dollar weakness.
Obverse - King Charles III
The obverse features the official portrait of King Charles III - effigy by Dan Thorne, on Australian bullion and circulating coins from 2024. A historic change after 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions: CHARLES III · AUSTRALIA · 100 DOLLARS · 2025.
Reverse - kangaroo (unique 2025 vintage)
The reverse showcases the unique 2025 vintage design with the red kangaroo (Macropus rufus). Constant elements: "P" mintmark and inscription AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO · 1 oz 9999 GOLD · 2025.
