999.9 in a two-ounce format
Most silver bullion is struck at 999. The Tudor Beasts run at 999.9, the same four-nines standard used for gold. The coin measures 38.61 mm across, the same diameter as a one-ounce silver Britannia — the second ounce of metal goes into thickness rather than width, so it feels substantially heavier than it looks.
Two-ounce coins occupy a middle ground. They carry a lower premium per ounce than one-ounce coins of the same series, but they are less divisible if you ever want to sell part of a holding.
VAT and UK capital gains tax
The UK VAT exemption for bullion covers investment gold only. HMRC defines investment gold in VAT Notice 701/21 and silver falls outside that definition, so silver coins carry VAT at the standard rate — currently 20 per cent in the UK and 23 per cent in Poland.
Capital gains tax is a separate question. HMRC exempts sterling currency, and this coin carries a GBP 5 face value, making it UK legal tender. For UK residents that places it in the same category as Britannias and Sovereigns. This is a statement of the published rule rather than tax advice — your own position depends on your circumstances.
