The plant covers a site of more than three hectares and is one of the world's largest facilities dedicated exclusively to precious-metals refining. History — from "Valori & Cambi" to a global refinery

The company was founded in 1961 in Balerna by five private Swiss entrepreneurs under the name Valori & Cambi (literally "exchange of valuables"). In 1967 the two parts of the name were merged into a single word — thus creating the brand Valcambi, now recognised worldwide.

Over the decades Valcambi changed hands several times while remaining among the leaders of global metal refining. For many years the company was linked with Credit Suisse, later its shareholders included Newmont and Mitsubishi Corporation. Since 2015 Valcambi has belonged to the Indian group Rajesh Exports (REL) — one of the largest jewellery groups in the world.
