Gifts
Number of products: 38Gold given as a gift has to work twice: it should look like a present and still be worth its metal the day it is sold. This category collects 57 items that do both — 38 minted bars and 17 coins, from 0.5 g upwards, each sealed in an assay card, a capsule or a gift box.
Smaller formats carry a higher premium over spot than a full ounce, which is the cost of buying gold in giftable sizes. Everything here is at least 999 fine and exempt from VAT.
What is in this category
Two thirds of the range is minted bars, from a 0.5 g Valcambi up to 100 g Argor-Heraeus Kinebar and PAMP Fortuna. The rest is small bullion coins — 1 g and 3 g Chinese Panda, 1/10 oz issues, and multigram sets such as the 25 x 1 g PAMP Multigram and the Maple Leaf MapleGram, which break into individual one gram pieces.
A few bars are made specifically as presents rather than as plain bullion: the PAMP Lady of Liberty and Lucky Cat at 2.5 g, the Arabian Camel pendant bar, and the Argor-Heraeus Year of the Horse issues for 2026.
Choosing a size
| Format | Typical use | Premium over spot |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 g to 2 g bar | christening, name day, first gift | highest |
| 5 g to 10 g bar | communion, graduation | moderate |
| 1/10 oz to 1 oz coin | wedding, milestone birthday | moderate to low |
| Multigram set | a gift meant to be divided | moderate |
The rule is consistent across the shop: the smaller the piece, the larger the share of the price that goes on minting rather than metal. A 1 g bar is the most giftable and the least efficient per gram; a 1 oz gold coin is the reverse.
Packaging
Minted bars arrive sealed in a certified assay card carrying the serial number — CertiPAMP for PAMP, Kinebar for Argor-Heraeus. Coins come in capsules. The seal is part of the product: breaking it to inspect the piece reduces what a dealer will pay for it later.
Tax status
Every gold item in this category is at least 999 fine, so it is exempt from VAT across the EU under Council Directive 2006/112/EC and in Poland under art. 122. For UK buyers, capital gains tax exemption is a separate matter and applies only to Royal Mint sterling coins, not to bars.
Occasions
The same range is grouped by occasion in gold for a christening, gold for first communion and gold for a wedding.
Questions buyers ask
What is a good amount of gold to give as a gift?
Most gifts here fall between 1 g and 10 g. Below 1 g the minting cost dominates the price; above 10 g the piece stops reading as a keepsake and starts being a holding.
Should the assay card be opened?
No. The sealed card carries the serial number and the refiner's assay, and an unopened seal is what makes resale straightforward. Opening it does not void anything, but it lowers what a dealer will offer.
Is gold given as a gift free of VAT?
Yes. Every gold item in this category is at least 999 fine, which places it under the EU exemption in Council Directive 2006/112/EC and art. 122 in Poland.
Can a multigram set be split between several people?
Yes. The 25 x 1 g PAMP Multigram and the Maple Leaf MapleGram are designed to separate into individual one gram pieces without tools.
