The obverse carries the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia — the quartered shield with its eagle and lion supporters — with the denomination, the year, the weight and the fineness, and REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA around the rim.
The reverse shows Noah’s Ark on the floodwaters, Mount Ararat and the rising sun behind it, and a dove carrying an olive branch in the foreground. Unlike an annually changing series, this motif stays the same from year to year.
The coin is issued by the Republic of Armenia and struck in Germany by Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung, the minting arm of Geiger Edelmetalle. Each piece is supplied in a sealed capsule with a numbered certificate.
HMRC treats a coin minted after 1800 as bullion gold if it is at least 900 thousandths fine, is or has been legal tender in its country of origin, and normally sells at no more than 180 per cent of the open market value of its gold (VAT Notice 701/21A).
