1 oz American Eagle Silver Coin | Mixed Years — the world's most recognised silver bullion coin
America's premier silver bullion coin, 999 fine
1 oz American Silver Eagle is the official silver coin of the United States, struck continuously since 1986 by the United States Mint (US Mint). Produced from pure silver with a fineness of 999/1000, it is recognised as one of the most popular silver bullion coins in the world, sought by buyers, collectors, and precious metal dealers across all major markets.
GoldInvest24 offers the 1 oz American Silver Eagle in mixed years. The year of issue is selected at random; choosing a specific date is not possible. Every coin contains exactly one troy oz (31.1035 g) of fine silver at 999/1000 purity.
Mixed-year American Silver Eagles are sold under the VAT margin scheme (Article 120 of the Polish VAT Act): tax is charged only on the dealer margin and is not shown separately on the invoice. The coin remains one of the most liquid silver coins available thanks to its global recognition and tight bid-ask spreads. Browse our full range of silver coins at GoldInvest24.
Obverse — Walking Liberty
The obverse features the iconic design by Adolph A. Weinman — Walking Liberty. Lady Liberty strides towards the rising sun, holding oak branches and laurel sprigs. Originally created for the 1916 Half Dollar, this motif is regarded as one of the finest in American coinage, symbolising freedom and hope.
Reverse — The American Eagle
The reverse design varies depending on the year of issue:
-
Up to 2020 — the heraldic bald eagle with shield, arrows, and an olive branch; the motto E Pluribus Unum appears above.
-
From 2021 — a new design by Emily Damstra: an eagle in free flight carrying an olive branch, introduced for the 35th anniversary of the series.
History of the American Silver Eagle
The American Silver Eagle was established by the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 and first issued in 1986. It is the best-selling silver coin in the history of the US Mint, minted every year without interruption. By law, only silver from American mines may be used. Proof and burnished editions in select years are sought-after collectibles. The coin is accepted by major dealers and banks worldwide, with resale value closely tracking the silver spot price.
Why choose the American Eagle as bullion silver?
-
The world's most recognised silver coin, traded on all major markets.
-
Uninterrupted mintage since 1986 — decades of state-backed continuity.
-
Fine silver 999/1000 — one full troy oz per coin.
-
High liquidity — straightforward buying and selling worldwide.
-
Two reverse designs in circulation — the heraldic eagle used until 2021 and the landing eagle introduced that year.
Mixed years — what does this mean for the buyer?
The mixed years listing allows you to acquire 1 oz American Silver Eagle coins at a competitive price without being tied to a specific date. Every coin contains the same quantity of fine silver (999/1000) and the same face value of 1 USD. For buyers focused on metal value, this is a particularly economical choice. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I choose the year?
No. Coins are shipped from current mixed-year stock and the date is not selectable. If you want a specific date, the 2026 issue is listed as a separate product.
Which reverse will I receive?
It depends on the year. Coins struck until mid-2021 show the heraldic eagle with shield by John Mercanti; later coins show the landing eagle by Emily Damstra. Weight, fineness and diameter are the same for both.
How much silver does the coin contain?
One troy ounce, i.e. 31.1035 g of silver at 999/1000 fineness. The coin measures 40.6 mm across.
Do older years carry a collector premium?
Bullion pricing follows the silver content. Only a few low-mintage dates, such as 1996, trade higher among collectors, and a specific date cannot be ordered from mixed-year stock.
Is it legal tender?
Yes. It carries a face value of one US dollar and is struck by the United States Mint on behalf of the US government. Its metal value is far above the face value.
How is VAT charged on this coin?
The margin scheme under Article 120 of the Polish VAT Act. The tax is included in the price but not itemised on the invoice, so a business buyer cannot reclaim input VAT. The 2026 issue is sold at the standard 23% rate.
